THE ROLE OF COPYRIGHT IN THE MEDIA INDUSTRY: THE ISSUES OF COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT IN THE INTERNET
Abstract
The development of modern digital technologies makes the need to build a new look at the mechanism of regulation of copyright relations and copyright protection in the Internet. The evolution of modern digital technologies dictates the need to build a new view on the mechanism of regulation and protection of copyright in the Internet. Creating and distributing illegal copies of works in a virtual environment creates an unfavourable environment for the development of the media industry, largely depriving rights holders of income from the use of works.
This article analyzes the role of a system of legal norms regulating copyright relations in the field of creation of works and the realization of the rights to the results of creative work in the media space. Universal computerization, the development of computer technology, the digital revolution of recent decades have increasingly updated the role of the media industry and contributed the necessity to create a solid legal basis for copyright protection in the Internet.
It`s noteworthy that the technologies that currently raise questions for copyright law are related to such features of a digitized work as the ease of copying, the ease of distribution and the availability of storage of the work, expressed electronically. The specified properties of the digitized work create the ground for numerous copyright infringements in the Internet, the most common of which are plagiarism and illegal distribution of a work posted in the Internet.
The author identifies the main problems associated with the unauthorized use of copyright content in the information and telecommunications network, highlights the most common digital offenses that occur in the media sphere and points to the need to create optimal regulatory constructs of copyright law aimed at the progressive development of the media industry.
