Abstract

The article explores the ethical aspects of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the educational process within higher education institutions. The main problem is to determine the boundaries of AI use in higher education, including the areas of academic papers and attestation. The aim of the study was to form general ideas about the use of AI in higher education based on the experience of St. Petersburg State University (SPbU). In order to achieve the aim, the authors analyzed the historical conditions and context of SPbU activity and studied the ethical norms and rules regulating the use of AI in educational activities, including those developed and implemented by the university itself. The article discusses specific practical cases of AI use by students and teachers and considers the ethical issues of such use. Based on the ideas expressed in this paper, SPbU develops “Memorandum on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Educational Process”. The study provides recommendations on the use of AI in education based on the need to preserve creativity and autonomy in the educational process. Despite the potential benefits of using AI in the educational process, it is necessary to carefully control its use in order to preserve the basic principles of university education and not to contribute to the impoverishment of an individual's intellectual and creative skills and capabilities.
